StripScout — Backcountry Airstrip Guide for Pilots
StripScout is a backcountry airstrip guide for pilots. It explains the product on stripscout.org and
sends pilots into the full working app at stripscout.app.
Backcountry airstrip database
Browse thousands of paved and unpaved strips across all 50 states. Each strip includes runway length,
surface, elevation, slope, CTAF, airspace class, and access notes — with private-use and public-use
airports clearly distinguished.
Weather and approach planning
Multi-source METAR, forecast, winds aloft, and turbulence data feed a per-strip operating window so
pilots can see when a strip is realistically flyable. Approach profiles add 3D terrain sampling and
advisory hazard alerts for high-risk corridors.
Performance tools
Density altitude, crosswind, takeoff and landing distance, and ADM risk scoring use your aircraft
profile and personal minimums to produce go / no-go context for the strip you're actually flying.
Built for offline use
StripScout is purpose-built to work without service. Cache strips, map tiles, and weather before you
launch and keep full strip context available deep in the backcountry where you have no signal.
Route planning and offline maps
Build VFR routes with leg distances and headings, export to ForeFlight (FPL), KML, or GPX, and cache
map tiles, strip data, and weather for offline use in remote terrain with no signal.
Community field reports
Pilots contribute current strip conditions, surface notes, recommended tire size, photos, and
recent mishap context — so the strip information you see reflects what's actually on the ground.
